West Nile Virus Detected In Norfolk
NORFOLK - Norfolk's top health official is advising diligence among residents to avoid mosquito bites now that West Nile Virus has been detected locally. John Kouba says it showed up in mosquitoes submitted from a light trap in the city in mid June. Limiting outdoor activity at dawn and dusk, wear long pants and sleeves and use repellents containing DEET will help avoid the insects. Kouba says eliminating any standing water on your property can greatly reduce "backyard mosquito numbers." Symptoms of West Nile Virus in humans can include fever, headache, body aches, skin rash and swollen lymph glands in people with mild infections.
