Stanton Authorities Investigate Three Accidents
STANTON - The Stanton County Sheriff's Office investigated three accidents Monday. Sheriff Mike Unger says the first accident occurred about 3:40 Monday afternoon on Highway 24 about four miles west of Stanton when a vehicle driven by Anthony Kubes, 24, of Stanton crossed the center line and struck a westbound semi nearly head on and caught on fire. Unger says witnesses put the fire out, and Kubes had to be extricated from his vehicle by Stanton Rescue. He was taken to Faith Regional in Norfolk and later to Creighton Medical Center in Omaha by helicopter. While officers were investigating the first accident, a second occurred on a county road intersection about six miles southwest of Stanton. Unger reports that Audrey Brandl, 16, was injured when her eastbound vehicle turned into the path of a southbound pickup and trailer. Brandl was taken to Faith Regional with possible internal injuries. And at about 7:35 Monday evening, officers were called to the scene of a one-vehicle rollover about three miles southwest of Stanton. 16-year-old Kelcey Huntley of Stanton was westbound on Union Creek Road about a mile west of Highway 57 and failed to negotiate a turn. She lost control of her pickup and the vehicle rolled into the north ditch. She was taken to Faith Regional in Norfolk for evaluation.
