Boise State gained seven first-place votes and closed in on top ranked Alabama and second ranked Ohio State as the top three teams in the first regular season Associated Press Football Poll held their spots from the preseason. Boise State received eight first-place votes from the media panel after a thrilling 33-30 victory against then-tenth ranked Virginia Tech on Monday night. The Broncos are 13 points behind the Buckeyes, who received four first-place votes. Alabama got 47 first-place votes, down seven from the preseason, and is 72 points clear of Ohio State. TCU moves up two spots to fourth and Texas remains fifth with one first-place vote. Nebraska is sixth, with Oregon, Florida, Iowa and Oklahoma rounding out the top ten.
The top ranked in both polls in Class “C2” Lutheran High Northeast volleyball team improved to 5-1 on the season after winning at Norfolk Catholic last night in four sets. They beat the Lady Knights 25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15. Kelsey Dinkel led Lutheran High Northeast with eleven kills while Erin Anderson led N.C. with ten kills. Norfolk Catholic drops to 4-2 on the year.
The Norfolk High girls golf team won a triangular at Columbus yesterday. The Lady Panthers shot a 184 while Fremont carded a 186 and Columbus shot a 205. Norfolk’s Sydney Roenfeldt & Kenzie Essley both a shot a 45 to lead the way. The Norfolk JV won their criteria by 18 strokes. In other golf news, Hartington Cedar Catholic won their own triangular yesterday with a 219. Norfolk Catholic was second with a 228 and Pierce was third with a 270. The Lady Knights’ Paige Marsden was the medalist with a 47.
