The Nebraska football team remains sixth in the Associated Press Top 25 College Football Poll. The Huskers are now 4-0 after a 17-3 win over South Dakota State on Saturday night. The teams that held the first three spots are still there. Alabama remains number one, followed by Ohio State and Boise State. The Crimson Tide got 57 first place votes after their comeback win over tenth-ranked Arkansas 24-20 on the road. Fourth ranked Oregon and fifth ranked TCU flip-flopped spots this week. Florida, Oklahoma, Stanford, and Auburn round out the top ten. Texas dropped 14 spots to 21st after a stunningly lopsided 34-12 home loss to UCLA. This snapped Texas' streak of 36 straight polls in the Top Ten, which was the longest active streak in the nation.
The Philadelphia Phillies have become the first National League team to clinch a playoff spot this year, when they were assured of at least a wild-card spot after Cincinnati beat San Diego. The Phillies' magic number for winning the National League East remained at one after their 7-3 loss to the New York Mets.
The Norfolk Catholic football team remains first in the Omaha World Herald & Lincoln Journal Star. Both newspapers updated their high school football rankings today. The 4-0 Knights are coming off a 55-0 home win over Wayne last Thursday night. They are outscoring their opponents on average 175-15 on the season. N.C. will be in action next on Friday when they visit 0-4 Madison.
