After dropping a heartbreaking five-set match on Sunday to Florida during the finale of the Runza/AVCA Showcase at the Qwest Center, the seventh ranked Nebraska volleyball returned to Omaha last night to post hard-fought sweep of the Creighton Bluejays 26-24, 25-18, 25-15 in front of a sold-out crowd at the D.J. Sokol Arena. Jordan Wilberger came off the Husker bench to give Nebraska a boost in her first action of the year, as put away eight kills on just 13 swings and added five blocks, including one solo stuff. Sydney Anderson contributed her first double-double of the year with 20 assists and 10 digs, while Brooke Delano led all Husker attackers with ten kills. Nebraska is now 2-1 while Creighton falls to 1-2. The Huskers will be heading to Provo, Utah for the BYU Tournament at Smith Fieldhouse. Nebraska and host-school BYU will play on Friday at 8:00. Creighton returns to action on Friday at 7:00 with a match at Saint Louis to open play in the Maraca E. Hamilton Active Ankle Challenge.
The Norfolk High girls golf team placed third at the Lincoln Pius X Invite yesterday at Wilderness Ridge. The Lady Panthers shot a 366 while champion Omaha Marian carded a 327 and Grand Island was second with a 350. Individually, Columbus’ Morgan Smejkal was the champion with a 74. Norfolk’s Kayla Bahle was ninth with an 86 and Sydney Roenfeldt tied for 15th with a 92.
