Louis Oosthuizen has completed his very unexpected run toward a British Open championship while posting one of the most lopsided victories in the tournament's history.  The South African took the lead for good during Friday's second round and finished seven strokes ahead of Lee Westwood for his first major title.  Oosthuizen closed with a 1-under 71 that included an eagle, a birdie and two bogeys. He ended up 16-under and came within one stroke of tying the modern Open record for largest margin of victory.  Oosthuizen made the cut just once in his eight previous major championships, finishing last at the 2008 PGA Championship.  He made only two bogeys over the final 35 holes in a strong wind that swept across the Old Course.  The only challenge in the final round came from Paul Casey, who got within three shots after the eighth hole before faltering.  Oosthuizen is the first player to earn his first major championship at St. Andrews since Tony Lema in 1964.  Casey finished in a three-way tie for third with first-round leader Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson, eight shots off the pace.  Retief Goosen was sixth.  Tiger Woods shot a final round par 72 to finish 3 under for the tournament. Phil Mickelson's final-round 75 left him plus-1.

Alex Rodriguez and the New York Yankees knocked around All-Star starter David Price, overcoming an early injury to Andy Pettitte with brilliant work by the bullpen Sunday in a 9-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.  Pettitte injured his groin in the third inning and ESPN is reporting he’ll be out 4-5 weeks.  Robinson Cano hit a two-run triple, Jorge Posada a two-run double and Rodriguez added his 598th home run for the Yankees, who took two of three in a series between the top two teams in baseball to move three games ahead of Tampa Bay in the American League East.  New York capped an emotional weekend filled with tributes to late owner George Steinbrenner and public address announcer Bob Sheppard by winning for the tenth time in twelve games.
