Tiger Woods did his best to give away the top ranking in the world.  Phil Mickelson wasn't having any part of it.  Woods struggled to a 7-over 77 in the final round of the Bridgestone Invitational to cap off one of the worst weeks of his professional career.  His 18-over 298 was the highest 72-hole score of any PGA Tour event he has entered.  Woods finished ahead of just one golfer in the 80-player field.  All Mickelson had to do to end Woods' run of 269 consecutive weeks as No. 1 in the world was finish solo fourth or better.  Lefty started the day tied for tenth, four shots off the pace, but shot a 78, the worst score of the final round.  Hunter Mahan won the tournament with a final round 6-under 64.  He finished two ahead of Ryan Palmer to clinch a spot on U.S. Ryder Cup team. Retief Goosen and Bo Van Pelt tied for third.

Terrell Owens believes he should still be playing for the Dallas Cowboys.  Instead, Owens was playing against them last night as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals in the Hall of Fame game that opened the NFL preseason.  Owens said, "You have to take the bitter with the sweet, and you move on.  Do I think I should probably be there? Yeah."  Owens spent three years in Dallas, one of five stops during his career that is about to enter a 15th season.  Even though he received a four-year contract extension before the 2008 season, he was released by the Cowboys amid headlines that the wide receiver feuded with quarterback Tony Romo and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.  He played for Buffalo in 2009 and signed with the Bengals when training camp started this year,  The Cowboys beat the Bengals 16-7 in the Hall of Fame game that kicked off the NFL's exhibition season.

Juan Pablo Montoya capped off a dominating performance by winning the NASCAR road course race at Watkins Glen.  The Colombian sensation led for 74 of the 90-laps for his second career win, both coming on road courses.  Kurt Busch finished second, followed by Marcos Ambrose, A.J. Allmendinger and pole-sitter Carl Edwards.
