The New York Jets reported for training camp with high hopes and without perhaps their best player. All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis is holding out while locked in a contract dispute with the team and there's no telling how long he might stay away. Revis is in a contract dispute and wants to be the NFL's highest-paid cornerback. He is to make $1 million in the fourth year of his six-year rookie deal.
Former Nebraska football standout Ndamukong Suh remains unsigned by the Detroit Lions. Suh’s contract will likely fall somewhere between St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford’s and that of Tampa Bay defensive end Gerald McCoy, the third pick. The Buccaneers signed McCoy to a five-year contract for $63 million, with $35 million guaranteed. Bradford inked a six-year $78 million deal, with $50 million guaranteed. Suh missed his third day of training camp on Sunday, but the Lions don’t have a history of having long rookie holdouts.
Denver running backs Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter have both been injured on the Broncos' first day of training camp. Moreno was carted off the field after hurting his right leg yesterday, and Buckhalter injured his left leg minutes later. About an hour into the workout, Moreno caught a pass in 7-7 passing drills and turned upfield when his leg buckled. He grimaced as he hopped into the team's headquarters for tests. Buckhalter hurt his leg about ten minutes later during the same drill and limped off on his own. The Broncos traded veteran running back J.J. Arrington to Philadelphia on the eve of camp. They had no immediate word on the extent or nature of the injuries to Moreno and Buckhalter.
Martin Piller won the Cox Classic at Champions Club Golf Course in Omaha yesterday by shooting a 64. The Des Moines, Iowa native finished at 23 under for his second win of the season. Dicky Pride was the runner up at 21 under. Piller won $130,500 for claiming the title and improved from tenth to fourth on the money list.
