Brett Favre is back practicing with the Vikings, and says this 20th NFL season will be his last.  The 40-year-old quarterback's return to the field comes on the one-year anniversary of his ending his second retirement from the NFL by signing a two-year, $25 million contract with the Vikings.  He's says the chance to win a Super Bowl with the Vikings is what lured him back for a final NFL campaign.  Favre has played in 309 straight games.  He's the NFL's leader in nearly every significant passing category, and the winningest regular-season quarterback ever.  He's coming off one of his best campaigns in which he threw 33 touchdowns with just seven interceptions.  Favre's first chance for preseason action could come Sunday night in San Francisco.

Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini's hard line with the media on Wednesday morning seemed to be softening by nightfall.  Irritated by some media members' reporting methods, Pelini announced he was cutting off access to players and coaches for three days but in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday night, the third-year coach said he might relent and allow access before Saturday.  Practices under Pelini have always been closed, except for the first 15 minutes most days.  Interviews are conducted after practices.  Pelini said he wanted to send a message to the media because he's miffed that reporters did an end-around to break news of a season-ending injury to linebacker Sean Fisher.

It was the Nebraska men’s basketball team which stood tall last night, defeating the Commonwealth Bank Giants, 91-74, in the Huskers' second exhibition contest.  After being outrebounded in Tuesday's opener, Nebraska controlled the boards on Wednesday.  NU enjoyed a 37-19 advantage, including a commanding 15-3 cushion on the offensive boards.  Christian Standhardinger had twelve points and seven rebounds coming off the bench while Jorge Brian Diaz chipped in ten points and five rebounds, including three offensive caroms that led to baskets.  In all, five players had at least four rebounds while no Husker played more than 26 minutes.  The Huskers will continue their foreign tour tonight as they play the Bahamas Select team at 7:30 p.m.
