Norfolk School teams busy on Friday

The top ranked in both polls in Class "C-1" Norfolk Catholic football team improved to 3-0 on the season Friday night after beating Lincoln Journal Star tenth ranked David City High 23-6 at Norfolk's Memorial Field.  Kory Schaefer had a 27 yard touchdown run, Jordan Bellar threw a 12 yard TD pass to Connor Ketter, and Drew Farlee booted three field goals in the win.  Farlee's field goals were from 28, 43, and 19 yards out.  The Scouts' lone score was a 36 yard touchdown pass from Derek Worm to Kurt Veskrna with 49 seconds left in the fourth quarter.  NC outgained David City in yardage 281-113.  The Knights led at halftime 13-0.  The Scouts falls to 1-2.

The Norfolk High volleyball team went 1-2 on Friday in the first day of the Lincoln Public Schools Tournament.  They lost to Lincoln North Star in their first match 25-14, 25-21.  The Lady Panthers came back to beat Lincoln High 25-12, 25-11 and then lost to Elkhorn 25-16, 25-15.  Norfolk is now 8-5 on the year and will play Lincoln Northeast on Saturday morning at 8:30 AM at Lincoln Southwest High School.

The Norfolk High cross country team hosted their own invitational on Friday at Skyview Lake.  In the boys race, Millard West was the team champion with 59 points while Norfolk was sixth with 120.  Individually, Grand Island's Seth Meharg was the champion in 17:16.  Norfolk was led by Austin Sweigard in 17:40.  In the girls race, Papillion La Vista South was the champion with 32 points while Norfolk took third with 69.  Individually, Norfolk's Melissa Parks was the champion in 15:33.  She broke the school record by 25 seconds.  Emilee Aschoff was 14th in 16:46 and Jordan Copple was 15th place in 16:49.  

The Norfolk Catholic & Lutheran High Northeast cross country teams participated in Friday's Columbus Scotus Invite.  In the boys race, Wayne was the team champion with 21 points, Norfolk Catholic was fifth with 85, and Lutheran High Northeast was tenth place with 187.  Individually, Logan View's Jake Kment was the champion in 17:08.  Norfolk Catholic's Tyler Maguire placed sixth in 17:44, Lutheran High Northeast's Tyler Ellis was 13th in 18:08, and Norfolk Catholic's Jared Maguire placed 15th in 18:21.  In the girls race, Columbus Scotus was the team champion with 50 points while the Lady Knights were fourth with 67.  Individually, Andrea Weeder of Lindsay Holy Family/Newman Grove was the champion in 15:37.  Norfolk Catholic's Morgan Hauser placed twelfth in 17:46, teammate Abby Beller was 16th in 18:17, and Dani Stappert placed 17th in 18:22.  

The Norfolk High girls golf team hosted their own invitational at the Norfolk Country Club on Friday.  Omaha Marian was the team champion with a score of 336 while Norfolk was second with a mark of 367.  Individually, Omaha Marian's Jordan Rearick was the champion after carding a 78.  Columbus' Morgan Smejkal was sixth with an 87, Norfolk's Kenzie Essley placed twelfth with a 91, teammate Kayla Bahle was 14th with a 92, Kaitlyn Westcott took 17th with a 92, and Michaela Lardy got 19th with a 92.

The Norfolk High boys tennis team placed second at Friday's Millard North Invite.  Omaha Westside was the champion with 40 points while the Panthers totaled 38.  Cody Schantz & Eric Busskohl placed third in #1 Doubles by going 3-1.  Ethan Calvert & Drew Dudley took fourth by going 2-2 in #2 Doubles.  Kaleb Kreikemeier placed second in #1 Singles by going 3-1 and Jackson Kube was 3-1 in #2 Singles to earn second place.
