Day One of the Boys State Golf Championships are in the books
Day one of the Boys State Golf Championships are in the books. In Class “A”, at Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln, Omaha Creighton Prep’s Will Pieper is the leader after the opening day round of 65 while Norfolk’s Colby Blackman is in a three-way tie for second with a 68. Panther Eric Bruening shot an opening day 72. Grand Island shot an opening day 288 and has a one stroke lead over Omaha Creighton Prep’s 289.
In Class “B”, at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney, there is a five-way tie for the individual lead with a 72 and Scottsbluff has the team lead with a 303 while Omaha Skutt is second with a 304.
In Class “C”, at Kearney’s Country Club, Crofton’s Christian Nohr & Sutton’s Reid Wiebe share the opening round lead with a 72. They have a one stroke lead. West Point-Beemer’s Richard Schneider is tied for sixth with a 74, and Hartington Cedar Catholic’s Nick Lauer & Columbus Scotus’ Derrick Dierman are tied for eighth with a 75. Sutton has the team lead with a 310, Archbishop Bergan is second with a 311, Hartington Cedar Catholic is currently third with a 317, Kimball is fourth with a 319, Norfolk Catholic is fifth with a 322, and Lutheran High Northeast shot an opening day 352. For the Knights, Riley Knake shot a 77, Ben Rowse put up a 78, Thad Baum carded an 80, Tanner Bessmer shot an 87, and Garrett Claussen put up a 125. Concerning Lutheran High Northeast, Payton Baker & Colby Svoboda shot 85’s, Derek Duerst carded an 89, Broderick Baker put up a 93, and Garret Pasold shot a 110.
In Class “D”, at The Rivers Edge Golf Course in North Platte, Sandhills/Thedford’s Matt Thomas has a one-stroke lead with a 73. Ewing’s Phillip Thramer is tied for fifth with a 76. Franklin has the team lead with a 329 while Ewing is second with a 330.
