Regent Concerned about University Budget Cuts
LINCOLN - University of Nebraska Regent Chuck Hassebrook says the University is bracing for the impact of staff furloughs to help balance the state budget. Governor Dave Heineman ordered two-day furloughs for all members of the state union earlier this month. Non-union employees had their salaries frozen in lieu of the layoffs. Hassebrook says with a budget deficit that could be as large as $300 million next year, there is the potential for real damage to the universities. He says the University will invest in the areas that are most important, and let some other things go.
