Rail Bridge Could Be Restored By August

NORFOLK - Rail service south of Norfolk could be restored in about a month-and-a-half. This after Nebraska Central Railroad's bridge over the Elkhorn River fell in after its pilings collapsed during last week's flooding. Senator Mike Flood says he's been told by railroad officials it could be back in operation by August 7th. He said today Nebraska Central hopes it can use the bridge span currently in the water, but they won't know for sure until they get cranes in and lift it up. Flood says since the bridge is private property, he's not aware of any state or federal government funding that could be used to help reconstruct the bridge and repair rail line near the bridge that's been undermined by floodwaters.
