Sports:
 The Norfolk High girls soccer team dropped at 4-0 decision last night to Omaha Westside in the A-7 District Final played in Omaha.  The Lady Panthers trailed 2-0 at half-time.  They’ll now wait for a possible wild card which will be announced on today when the State Tournament bracket is released.
 
Norfolk Catholic held their track & field invitational yesterday.  In the boys standings, the Knights were the champions with 119 points with Pierce placing second with 103 points and Wisner/Pilger taking third with 84.  Lutheran High Northeast was seventh with 27 points.  Individual champions for Norfolk Catholic were Jarren Heng (800 & 3200); Landon Nelson (Pole Vault); 4X100 Relay; & Lutheran High Northeast’s Marcus Skoglund (Long Jump).  In the girls criteria, Pierce was the champion with 126 points with Norfolk Catholic taking second with 111 points and O’Neill was third with 67 points.  Lutheran High Northeast was seventh with 30 points.  Norfolk Catholic’s lone champion was the 4X100 Meter Relay Team & Lutheran High Northeast's Karissa Blank claimed the Triple Jump.
 
The Lutheran High Northeast boys golf team competed in yesterday’s Central 8 Conference Tournament at the Friend Country Club.  O’Neill was the team champion with a 363, Lutheran High Northeast was second with a 365, and Fullerton was third with a 384.  Individually, O’Neill’s Blake Bauer was the champion with a 79, Twin River’s Evan Fowler was second with an 80, Lutheran High Northeast's Broderick Baker placed third with an 86, teammate Colby Svoboda was fourth with an 88, and Payton Baker was eighth with a 93.

News Briefs:
 A Utah-based company has closed its call center in Wayne, costing around 50 part-time workers their jobs. A spokesman says the site was closed because Western Wats decided to consolidate its smaller operations into larger call centers. The company does market research and political surveys.
 
With less than a week to go until the state primary election, Nebraska's gubernatorial race is already knee-deep in mud. A Democratic challenger accused of fudging campaign finance numbers says Republican incumbent Dave Heineman is playing dirty. Democrat Mark Lakers accuses Heineman's staff of harassing Lakers' donors.
 
Norfolk residents will decide Tuesday whether or not to add fluoride to the city's water supply. Norfolk dentist Dr. Jim Doyle says fluoride will be helpful to those most in need of dental care, especially children. Local opponent the Reverend Arin Hess says studies show health concerns from fluoridation.
 
Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood of Norfolk has endorsed one of the candidates in the three-way race for the Republican nomination for Nebraska State Treasurer. Flood says he has worked with Tony Fulton in the Legislature for four years, and believes he is the right man for the position.
 
Former Nebraska Attorney General Don Stenberg says he has what it takes to run another state constitutional office. During a campaign stop this week in Norfolk, Stenberg says his past experience qualifies him for the job. Stenberg is challenging State Senator Tony Fulton and former State Patrol Superintendent Tom Nesbitt on Tuesday for the GOP nomination for state treasurer.
 
Youth who need to take tractor safety training this summer are urged to register now for the session to be offered June 11th and 12th in Norfolk. Youth ages 14 and 15 are required to take the training if they want to work on a farm other than their family farm or if they plan to drive farm equipment on public roads.
 
Animals and plants native to the island nation of Madagascar will be featured in and around a 300-foot-long exhibit building opening today at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. Several species of lemurs will be included in the display.
