NEN Man Sentenced To Life In Prison

OMAHA (AP) - A Niobrara man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his former girlfriend on the Santee Sioux reservation in northeast Nebraska. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Omaha reports Shanon Thomas was sentenced Wednesday for first-degree murder and weapons violations. Prosecutors say Thomas confessed to killing Dawn Starlin, 46, after he thought she vandalized his current girlfriend's house. Starlin's body was found April 18 at her home on the reservation. Prosecutors say Thomas shot Starlin five times with a .22-caliber rifle, then fled and hid the weapon.
