More Flood Warnings Issued On Friday

NORFOLK - More heavy rain has fallen across portions of Nebraska. The Norfolk airport reported a record 1.34 inches of rain on Thursday -- and in downtown Norfolk, another 1.78 inches of rain has fallen overnight. The Nebraska State Patrol reports this has prompted the closure of a portion of Highway 81 from the junction with Highway 91 south to Highway 22. The area around the junction of Highway 32 and 15 in southern Stanton County was also closed this morning but was reopened shortly before 7 a.m. Some vehicles were stalled there earlier this morning. The 106 KIX rainfall reporter, who lives a mile from the intersection, reports a 24 hour rainfall total of 5.10 inches. The campground at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in south of Norfolk also had a considerable amount of water this morning.

NORFOLK - The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning until 12:30 this afternoon for Cuming, Madison and Stanton counties. Radar has estimated one-to-three inches of rain has fallen in these areas overnight. More rain is likely yet this morning, with additional amounts of an inch or so possible. Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flooding to occur on creeks and streams. Union Creek near Madison was above flood stage. Other small streams in Madison County may also flood -- including Maple Creek and parts of Pebble Creek.

NORFOLK - A flood warning is also in effect until 3:00 this afternoon for Antelope, Pierce, southern Cedar and Wayne counties. Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flooding to occur on creeks and small streams in the warned area. That includes the small tributaries of the Elkhorn River -- like the North Fork River and tributaries of Logan Creek. The North Fork near Pierce is expected to rise above flood stage by early Saturday morning and continue to rise to 12.4 feet by early Saturday afternoon. Flood stage is 12 feet. The river will fall to flood stage by early Sunday morning.
