Major Winter Storm Stiil Targeting Nebraska
NORFOLK - A strong winter storm will move across the region today and Saturday affecting western and central Nebraska today, then eastern Nebraska late tonight and tomorrow. The National Weather Service reports snow could begin as early as this evening in parts of northeast Nebraska, but it will really begin to accumulate later tonight.
NORFOLK - A winter storm watch remains in effect from this evening through Saturday evening for northeast Nebraska. The National Weather Service reports rain will gradually change over to snow for areas around Albion toward Norfolk. Areas from Columbus toward Onawa, Iowa should see this change to snow late this evening with areas around Omaha and Lincoln seeing the change after midnight. All of the area should see snow, heavy at times, through much of Saturday. Widespread snow accumulations of 5-to-9 inches are possible. The greatest amounts will be along and just north of the Interstate 80 corridor where amounts up to 11 inches are possible. There could be a sharp cutoff in snowfall north of a Norfolk to Harlan, Iowa line with locations there only receiving an inch or two.
NORFOLK - Travel will become difficult once the snow begins across the area tonight. Heavy snow and some blowing and drifting of snow is likely. The combination of snowfall and winds of 20-to-30 miles per hour will reduce visibilities to a half-mile or less at times.
