Governor To Tour Flood Areas
LINCOLN (AP) - Cloudy skies have delayed the governor's aerial tour of potential flood sites in eastern Nebraska. Spokeswoman Ashley Cradduck says the clouds were too low for a helicopter tour this morning by her boss, Gov. Dave Heineman. She says the governor hopes to try again Friday afternoon or, if necessary, Saturday morning. Heineman and Al Berndt, assistant director of the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, plan to fly over the Linoma Beach area along the Platte River and areas near Fremont, Schuyler, Scribner, West Point, Genoa and Columbus. The state has opened its emergency operations center, and the state has stepped up its flood monitoring in light of recent melting of ice and snow. Ice jams have been reported in the northeast.
