Fremont Hires Lawyer for Federal Lawsuits
FREMONT - The Fremont City Council has agreed to hire attorney Kris Kobach to defend the city in two federal lawsuits over a controversial ordinance that bans hiring of or renting to illegal immigrants. Kobach represented the citizens who wanted the measure put on the ballot over objections from the city council. He has agreed to provide representation at no cost to the city of Fremont. Fremont is a member of the League Association of Risk Management, and had considered hiring an attorney recommended by LARM. Some citizens believe LARM's only concern would be protecting the financial interests of the city and not defending the ordinance. The vote to hire Kobach was unanimous.
