Elkhorn River Flood Warning
NORFOLK - Flood warnings continue on the Elkhorn River -- downstream from Norfolk. The National Weather Service reports the Elkhorn was at 12.1 feet at Pilger as of 1:45 Friday afternoon -- just over the 12 foot flood stage. Minor flooding is occurring, but the river is forecast to continue to fall below flood stage by late this afternoon. The river at West Point was at 13.6 feet at 2:15 this afternoon -- much higher than the 12 foot flood stage. The river there will continue to rise to 13.8 feet by this evening. It will fall below flood stage by Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile at Hooper, the Elkhorn River is expected to rise to 16.3 feet by this evening. Flood stage there is 14 feet. At 18 feet, Highway 275 at Hooper must be closed with the levee gate. The National Weather Service reports sandbagging will be needed downstream from Hooper.
