Elkhorn River Dropping Slowly

NORFOLK - The Elkhorn River continues to recede into its banks in Norfolk. The National Weather Service reports the river at 11 p.m. Thursday stood at 11.9 feet just below the 12 foot flood stage. The river locally will fall to 9.5 feet by Saturday morning.

NELIGH - The Elkhorn River at Neligh, was at 11.2 feet Thursday morning and will continue to fall below the 10 foot flood stage by early Friday.

PILGER - At Pilger, the Elkhorn had risen to 14.7 feet by 8:00 Thursday night -- above the 12 foot flood stage. It should fall below flood stage this afternoon. At West Point, the Elkhorn was at 14.2 feet Thursday night and will fall below flood stage by Saturday morning. Further downstream at Hooper, the river stood at 18.2 feet at 9:00 Thursday night - over four feet above flood stage. The river at Hooper will continue to fall below flood stage by early Saturday afternoon. Record flooding is widespread even though Hooper is protected by a levee.
