DOR Evaluates Roads, Bridges
NORFOLK - The preliminary report on the Elkhorn River bridge on Highway 81 is good. That's according to Kevin Domogalla, district operations and maintenance manager for the Department of Roads in the Norfolk area. Domogalla says they found some undermining of the Highway 81 bridge, and it is still a little early to make a decision about the condition of the southbound lanes. He says more tests are being done, and traffic may be allowed on the bridge later today. Domogalla says bridges across the district generally seem to have weathered the raging Elkhorn, but until the water has gone down, it will be hard to tell that for sure. Domogalla says the Elkhorn is causing problems southeast of Norfolk. He says last night, the Department of Roads closed a stretch of Highway 32 near West Point, and Highway 81 remains closed between Humphrey and the Highway 22 junction.
