Crime Down In Nebraska

LINCOLN (AP) - The number of crimes reported last year in Nebraska dropped more than 4 percent, with fewer arrests for almost all categories of crimes. The 2009 statewide crime statistics were released on Thursday by the Nebraska Crime Commission. There were more than 53,000 crimes reported last year, almost 2,500 fewer than in 2008. There was a ten percent drop in reported violent crimes, compared with a 5.5 percent decline nationally.  The arrests of juveniles for violent crimes rose more than ten percent last year, one of only a few statistical increases.
