Contested Races Draw Voters Out in Antelope County
NELIGH - Several contested races brought out voters in Antelope County. In an election that saw low voter turnout statewide -- 46.5% of Antelope County voters went to the polls Tuesday. One of the races that drew voters out was a four-way contest for the Republican nomination for County Sheriff. Incumbent Darrell Hamilton, who was the subject of a recall effort in 2007, lost out to Robert Moore of Elgin. Moore received 624 votes, while Hamilton received 422. Also in the race was Cynthia Johnston with 367 votes and Jeff Treu with 139. Moore will face Democrat Mark Duncan in November. Incumbent Antelope County Attorney Michael Long of Norfolk also lost his bid for re-election to Joseph Abler, also of Norfolk. Abler received 764 votes to Long's 692 to win the Republican nomination for county attorney. He will face Democrat James Meuret this fall.
