Attorney General Watches Fremont Situation
FREMONT - Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning is watching the situation in Fremont, where the City Council has voted to suspend implementation of a controversial illegal immigrant ordinance. Bruning anticipates many other cities and states will pass similar ordinances. Fremont's ordinance was scheduled to go into effect tomorrow. It makes hiring of or renting to illegal immigrants a crime; and it allows for fines against businesses and landlords who violate the ordinance. It also requires all those wanting to rent within the city limits of Fremont to obtain a renters permit.
